Laptop making noise?
I have an HP Pavilion dv6-6135dx laptop with Windows 7 that is at least 7-8 years old.
From time to time, it will make noises like an airplane trying to take off. But only when in it's in use. It's happened many times over the years and usually goes away somehow when it happens but it just started doing it again yesterday. It's so annoying and I don't know how to get rid of it...any suggestions? I have barely anything on my laptop that takes up space. I feel like I've tried many things like power saving mode, etc. I don't have a vacuum to clean out anything, please keep that in mind. Please help!!

Due to the age of the laptop, the bearing of the fan may need some lubrication. What you can try is opening the laptop, removing the fan and then carefully removing the label. Underneath you'll probably see a metal pin. That should turn when you spin the fan. Make sure that the fan is disconnected and clean and then use some oil. You must use less than a drop or you'll damage the fan and the oil may drip on the remainder of the components. Spin the fan manually several times and then wipe the excess oil away. Leave it for a few minutes and check for excess oil again. Then replace the label and put the fan back. It shouldn't make a noise anymore.

If it is making noises it could be due to CPU fan fins have been broken inside as plastic tends to wear and tear with time or maybe because of CPU fan have something inside it which is stuck and end up making noises.
You either need to open up your laptop by yourself or by technician to get it diagnosed for the issue of making noise.

Most likely the FAN. It could be dirty. You need to remove the bottom of the laptop and clean out the inside.

Yes. Replace your hard drive with a solid-state drive. Generally speaking, you can expect the hard drive on your laptop to last anywhere from 3 to 5 years on average. Your laptop is much older than that.
