Should I avoid Thailand?

If you're going to behave like a tourist, then you got nothing to worry about.  

Like they already said, dont criticize the king or country in public ( and thats very easy to do ).

Second, dont ever think you can win a fight in Thailand even if they wronged you or ripped you off, cause everyone will join the bashing while cops will wait for them to be done and disperse.

The second scenario is also easy to avoid, since they target those tourists that behave in an arrogant, loud, drunk and pushy manner ( everyone knows this ) and so they get what they deserve.  

No it is only if you mention the Royal Family.

You are maybe confusing two different things. Lese-majeste is illegal in Thailand. If you can't hold your tongue about the rather odd King of Siam while your are there, then don't go. 

Then there are low level scams where you rent a jetski or a motorbike, and then allegedly break it. The scammers connive with the police to extort money from the hapless renter. The easy solution to this is don't rent that kind of stuff. 

It depends on what country you come from

You better check the requirements.  Now many people can not go.  It depends on what country you come from.   Plus the requirements are you have to get letters from a doctor that you are fit to travel and that you been checked for the virus at least two days before arriving in Thailand.  There are also few flights going to the country and you need medical insurance against the virus of $100,000.   I would wait a year or more before planning to go. As I said check what the requirements are for the country you are from.  

Yes, you can also be jailed or fined if you give negative comments about the country.  If you give negative comments about the King you will be jailed for 15 years.  So if you go don't open your mouth and say stupid things about the country, it's people, and the King.

It's a dictatorship. I lived there for 2 months. But it's so fun and beautiful there. If you can make it to Songkran. GO! It's the greatest New Year celebration and countrywide water gun fight in the world. There's nothing like it.

PS Thai cops don't get paid enough by the government. So they do stop foreigners even for nothing or make up an excuse like they were speeding. All they want is a bribe. $12 is pretty standard. That's how they subsidize their income. Don't let them know if you have more money but if you get stopped ask if there's a fee you can pay them or a penalty in cash. You can even name it but they generally want about $12. There wouldn't be a need for a cop to stop you unless you're driving or if you're doing something stupid. There are so many foreigners there. Especially western ones. Pai, looks like Woodstock in NY.

SURELY you don't wish to go to OTNER people's home and PUT THEM DOWN? Thailand is a fine (horridly hot and humid, coming from a Texan) country. Maybe you enjoy criticizing USA (or YOUR home) but you and I BOTH know it could stand some improvement. PEOPLE'S ATTITUDES, FOR ONE.
