i wanna dye my hair black, will it stay?

i have natural dark blonde hair and i wanna dye it black to try something different. ive never dyed it before.  Does black stay or will it wash out after a while?

Update:

i should mention that i want it to stay! do i need to use color treated shampoo?

    I'd use a semi permanent dye the first time. I don't think you're gonna like it well enough to keep it forever.

    Yes, black hair dye does stay in hair for awhile and it does eventually fade but it takes a VERY long time. Also color-treated shampoo is very important to use for colored hair and will make the color look more vibrant, so yes.
