    We know from some of his preliminary drawings, and from a couple of letters he wrote to the Pope, that Da Vinci didn't actually finish his famous painting of Mona Lisa. He intended to have the painting show a cartoon "idea!" light bulb turning on above her head, indicating that she (or maybe Da Vinci himself) was about to invent the light bulb. But then some person from the nearby Italian city-state of Porlocco knocked at his door and he forgot to finish the painting.
