Is it harmful to your health to take too many stool softeners?
I took some the other day, and seem to need them again today. Would it hurt me if I took them again?

Not a problem two days in a row, but in general long term use isn't good... with different problems depending on whether the softeners are the type that stimulates contraction of the intestines or the type that draws water into the intestines. You can become dependent on stimulants and the other can cause severe electrolyte imbalance. I suggest prunes, well chewed. Try about a dozen of them. And then get more fiber in your diet and drink plenty of water.

Speak to your doctor if you feel you suddenly need to take daily to check for underlying health problems but it won't harm you to take them for a few days. I'm prescribed the maximum dose of Dulcoease (docusate sodium) daily as I'm on long term opioids and pretty much inactive due to disability. I've been on them years without issue.

Taking too many and too often can make you dependent on them.
A much better plan would be to to eat foods high in fiber; fruit, vegetables, high-fiber cereal, etc.

you can take one every day for weeks with no problem. Beyond that, talk to a doctor.

You are right to be concerned.
Due to my meds, I take them daily without problem. But you have to be very careful of the type, some cause long-term problems.
I've been told Dulcolax is ok daily, most of the rest should be limited to a few days.
