You order them and then try them. If they don't fit, you return them.
Some people order a couple sizes. For example, you might order a 34x36 and an 35x 36 to see which one fits your thighs best.

You can't. You always take a chance on having to return them. Especially if you're one of those picky people that must have every last thread perfect.

When shopping online they usually give you the ability to pick your wanted size. If a store's website doesn't provide that option, they aren't worthy of having an online shopping experience.
