Can an insurance company send a cancellation letter by mistake?

I was sent a cancellation letter from an insurance plan under Medicaid.  I called immediately and asked why I was being cancelled or terminated or disenrolled.  The person answering said that he was sorry but it was a mistake.  Sometimes different clerks make mistakes.  This is the first time I have ever heard of a company or health plan sending a cancellation letter by mistake.

They can make mistakes.  But when you call, they can mistakes or they can lie, because there is no way to prove what they say on the phone.  If you need to know something, then you need them to tell you in writing, and not just on the phone.
