In Winkler test we used alkaline KI(Potassium Iodide)solution what is the reason for this ?

    But briefly, O2 reacts with Mn2+ oxidizing it to Mn3+.

    I- reduces Mn3+ back to Mn2+ and forms I2

    I2 is then measured

    So, KI reduces Mn3+ to Mn2+
