What should I take to hospital for my old friend?

I moved from a different country to US and now I have one of my old American friend in a hospital, I would like to visit him but don't know what the culture is should I take fruits, flowers, juice box or something? He is in his 80's and a guy if that helps thanks.

First contact the hospital to see if he's on any restrictions. If he's in an ICU he's probably not allowed gifts at all. There also might be food restrictions. Flowers are usually allowed on non acute wards. Another idea is a stuffed animal or something cute and comforting.

A juke box might be rather large! Some hospitals don't allow flowers as they use oxygen, so call them and ask. Fruit is good; grapes are traditional. Or sweets/candy.
