Are phone companies a head ache?
Is it me or they are so complicated? And it’s like they make things so complicated on purpose and for no reason. I am just trying to switch my line from one carrier to another and add it to my families plan and trying to get the packages we want but they make us jump through hoops. Does anyone else feel like they make you jump through hoops in the most useless and complicated way?

Yes, phone companies have been notoriously complicated since the break up of Bell.
Anything more than a brand new line with new number seems to confuse them.

Nope, it's pretty clear on most cases. If all you are doing is moving your phone number from one carrier to the next, you just port your current active number to the new carrier.
If you are adding complications, like partially paid plans or phones on contract, then those "hoops" are on you and your current/old carrier, which tend to be controlled by third party companies.
So you are of course bound by the agreements you signed up for, and how you go about getting out of them, is spelled out in the agreement you rushed in saying yes to, only to get a little upset that you didn't pay attention before hand, because you wanted what you wanted.
