is this considered Plagarism? ?
So I'm struggling in one of my classes and the professor barely has graded the midterm exam that I turned in a month ago and he messaged me saying that I was going to get a zero on the first question of the essay because I defined what social construction was....
this is the opening of the paragraph in which he gave me a zero and accused me of plagiarism:
Social Construction is defined as an idea that has been created and accepted by the people in a society. This applies to sexuality because for some, sexuality is seen as a choice and this kind of view affects social construct by feeding into the social norms set by society rather than stepping away from it entirely.
he highlighted the first sentence... and said I plagiarized it....
he said "in the first question the definition of a social construct is plagiarized. This question (not the whole exam) will receive a zero.
just realized i misspelled Plagiarism

If you took the definition from a book, or any reference on the internet, including a dictionary, and did not give credit for it by referencing where you got the definition, then it can be considered plagiarism.

It's considered plagiarism if you copied from another source, or very closely paraphrased from another source, without giving proper credit to the source. In many cases such as this, professors want the definition in your own words - that's how it's clear that you know and understand the concept. How well you can copy it from someone else doesn't really show that.
