for which values of the number t the equation is an identity

a) t(x+2)=x+t

b) t(x-1)=x-t

the answers is going to be: 

a) no t

b) t=1

I dont understand can someone show me step by step how I can get get those answers because I want to learn.

    a) t(x + 2) = x + t

    so, tx + 2t = x + t

    i.e. tx - x = -t

    => x(t - 1) = -t

    so, x = -t/(t - 1)

    Hence, t can take any value except 1

    b) t(x - 1) = x - t

    so, tx - t = x - t

    i.e. tx - x = 0

    => x(t - 1) = 0

    so, x = 0, when t is not 1

    Checking with say, x = 0 and t = 4 we have:

    4(0 - 1) = 0 - 4

    i.e. -4 = -4
