Why are orangutans so slow?

They don't have to move fast to survive, they are not lazy and fast if need be.

Think of a single gutan like seal team 6 wrapped in fur.

Orangutans rarely come down from the trees, and so they are pretty safe from predators such as tigers and leopards. There is no reason for them to move fast, since they do not hunt other animals such as monkeys, something chimps hunt to supplement their diet. Basically, if slow ones are not eliminated by natural selection, then there is no selective pressure to be fast. 

Orangutans are incredibly strong, because there is an advantage to being strong, as it requires strength to climb trees and males also can benefit from being strong because they fight for the right to mate. Only the strongest males have a good chance to leave descendants, and that is why most orangutans are strong, because the weak ones will likely have little chance to pass on their genes. Male chimps OTOH do not fight for the right to mate, and so there is less selective pressure to be strong. Male chimps are bonded to other males in their troop and they cooperate to defend their territories against other troops nearby. If males in the same troop fight each other for the right to mate, then they would weaken each other physically and also weaken the bond between individuals and wind up losing their territory to neighboring troops. Orangutans do not maintain territories nor do they form troops. 

Why move when everyone brings everything to them? Besides, they're not slow, they're too cool for school.
