On the Northstar engine it is under the intake manifold, inside the engine.

Follow the positive battery cable to the starter.
Watch a youtube video for replacing the starter and you'll see where it is.

Follow the fat wire to the engine!
The starter is within the engine, under the intake manifold. It lasts a long time, generally, but is rather expensive to change due to the labor. Does your starter have a problem, or are you just wondering where it is?
