Before, there was NO trade between China and the USA/Australia. Those days were fat better.

Banning goods from China entirely sets the stage for them to ban all of ours too.
The response needs to be measured and something they will take notice of, but can be reversed more easily if they become fairer trading partners.
What we need to do is impose a tariff on all Chinese sourced goods. That includes Chinese goods routed through other countries. I think a good starting point is 20% and increase the tariff if they decide to escalate.
I expect them to escalate of course, because they are so incredibly ignorant. I have no problem if our government ends up having to impose a 100% or 300% tariff on all Chinese sourced product.
We buy more from them than they from us anyway, so lets source everything elsewhere if they want to be so difficult.
For all the evils committed by the Chinese government I really think an international trade embargo is the answer, but we can take that one step at a time.
The evils I speak of range from:
1) annexation of Tibet
2) Tienanmen square massacre
3) Covid19 release and subsequent cover up
4) ongoing religious persecution of their own people
5) border skirmishes initiated by the Chinese army against neighboring countries
6) covert collaborative dealings with North Korea
7) worldwide spying against numerous corporations and governments
8) millions of copyright infringements across the board
9) counterfeiting of US currency
10) appalling treatment of their own citizens in Hong Kong
11) illegal annexation of the contested South Sea islands
I'm sure there are other serious concerns which I haven't yet addressed, but that will do for the moment.
