He's loved because of nostalgia and the yearning for what's perceived as a simpler time.  However, that time was in fact one in which sexual harassment and objectification was not taken seriously by most men.  That said, there was a time when people had a more nuanced sense of humour and were less simplistic in some areas.  I'm far from being a fan of Benny Hill, but he did illustrate how men are often led astray by the myth of the irresistible male sex drive.

I am neither one of those. My response is a shrug and a puzzled look. I must admit, I've never really understood why people found him funny.

Sort of like my old union shop steward used to say. She held that there were only two kinds of people in the world, people who find "The Three Stooges" funny, and people who don't understand why people find "The Three Stooges" funny. She was probably the greatest public personality I have ever met in my life, a courageous and  TIRELESS  fighter for the rights of the working class. I miss her DAILY, and she's been dead for a long time.

But she had TERRIBLE taste in humor.
