What would happen if I try to pay a credit card from an empty bank account? ?

What will happen if I pay a big payment from an empty bank account? Say a payment of 5 grand? Will the payment go through or will it bounce? Also, is it illegal? If so, would the police show up at my door one day I'm at home? Would I get a court summons in the mail?

It's the same legal punishment as writing a bad check.

    It will bounce of course.

The check will bounce and you will be charged with check fraud and the police will come looking for you. Of course the penalties depends on the laws where you committed the crime but in Georgia if the check amount was $1,500 or more, then you would face a felony charge, which carries a maximum fine of $5,000 and the chance of a maximum three-year imprisonment. (O.C.G.A. § 16-9-20).

The payment will bounce, the bank will close your account, and you'll pick up extra charges from the credit card company for making a bad payment. The credit card company could file charges against you but they probably wouldn't unless you've done it before.

The payment will simply be declined by the bank and not go through. The credit card company will charge you interest the following month.

It is not illegal because it is done in error sometimes by people who do not realise the account is empty.

In MY State that dollar amount makes it a felony.  However, when you attempt to make the payment the credit company often verifies the info and will know immediately that it is fraudulent.

So you actually wonder if you pay from an empty bank account if the payment will go through?  And, yes, it's illegal.  I don't know if the Police will show up when you are home or not at home.

Why would you be served with a Summons?  You will be arrested.  This is a criminal charge, not a criminal charge.  Maricopa does NOT take threats of bank fraud lightly.  You are a fool to post so much identifying info.

VERY ODD in view of your past that you would ask this question:  "I have committed fraud in the past. I've written checks from empty bank accounts, paid credit cards from empty bank accounts, and have tried to pay myself through paypal. When I make payments to my credit cards, specifically through Citi, my account is only credited for 1 second, then drops back. The card is maxed out. I called them and the guy gave me the run around telling me that my credit will reset in a few weeks. Why do these people lie to me? He made up some story saying that it is because I maxed out the card. I've made a big payment to the card, and I do not have access to the funds at all."
