Why do babies put everything in their mouths?

Like even when they see a new object it just straight into their mouths! Is it to see if it's edible or why?

They do this because they need something to chew on to make their gums feel better.  They do NOT know how to tell us what is wrong - so they grab things and start chewing.

The mouth is very sensitive and takes in a lot of sensory information, so it's an interesting experience. Chewing on things can also be soothing if gums are sore from teething.

A baby is geared for survival until they get older. Anything that can fit in their hand goes in their mouth in case it is something edible.

Everything is new to them, textures, tastes, smells; it's just their way of learning. They my also be teething.
