Striking is PC for refusing to go to work. Refusing to go to work is grounds for firing. Those who refuse to work in accordance with their contracts deserve to be fired in any profession but most especially where refusing to work can endanger lives.
Collective bargaining is one thing. Refusing to do the job you are hired to do is another thing.
