I accidently hit the lock button instead of log off on Windows.. need help?
I updated the password on my sign in and went to log off but hit the lock option instead. When I went to type in my password that i just updated it said it was locked and couldn't sign in. Isn't it supposed to be the same password that i just updated to unlock it or is it a different one set up a long time ago? I tried clicking the restart and got the same locked message. Would a cold restart get back to my regular screen without the lock still active? Not sure of the windows version. I just want to sign in with my regular password.

when you lock the screen, you're need to use the old password to unlock as that is the password in the RAM at the moment. The new password won't work until you reboot. So, unless you remember the old password, a reboot is in order. Be sure to use the shutdown command on the lock screen.

So you don't use Windows10? Because logins now aren't password but PIN. Are you sure you're not supposed to be typing in your PIN, not an alphanumeric password? Also, I know this should be obvious, but if that's not it, have you tried the old password. Finally, if all else fails, log in as Administrator and reset the password to the account.
