epiphany (January 6th) is when I take the decorations down.  It used to be the climax of the Christmas period, and in some countries, like Spain and Italy, still is.  It seems to have faded out in the U.K., unfortunately.  In fact, I understand that people used to keep decorations up until Candlemass (2nd February) .

The Christmas season traditionally ends January 6th.  I see Valentine stuff in the stores now- so, the Christmas season is over for the retail industry.  (January 1st signals the beginning of the next season- look for spring and Easter stuff in the stores in the next month or so).
