Does it make sense for pro football players to wear masks on the sidelines during games?

We are talking about grown adults who sacrifice their bodies to win a game.  Do you really think they give a damn about a virus?

I’d assumed they weren’t allowed to be there unless they were clear, but I suppose they should as at least a few will have sneaked off to a party.

Yes they should. Enough players have been held out due to positive tests. They don't want to have to cancel games.

    Yes, it does make sense.

    You asked two different questions:

    1.  Does it makes sense..... Given they are face to face on the field, I find it hard to believe it matters for them to mask-up off the field.  I guess it helps to reduce the chance of spreading to staff.  I think it is good as it will influence fans (mainly if they didn't wear them.)

    2.  Do they care.....  By all means they care about the virus.  They are trying to make a living.  They aren't getting paid if they are stupid and shut down the league (or greatly reduce the games and team revenue.)  They may not be worried about dying from it, but they for certain are smart enough to know the potential hit to their wallet.

If they want to prevent an outbreak which causes players to miss games then yes it does make sense.

Well yeah, look at what happened with the Titans. They may be low risk for death, but they aren't low risk for being forced to cancel games because of widespread infections.

Yes it does make sense.  Here's why - perception.

These are mostly young and healthy guys.  They are the epitome of a low risk group in terms of covid.  Even the coaches and staff are ON AVERAGE healthier than most Americans (don't look at Andy Reid).

But they can still transmit the virus quite well.  And this is mainly about appearances.  If they are transmitting the virus, then they are part of the problem, and will fall under tremendous media pressure to shut down.  Remember early in the year when the media waged a shame campaign to force golf and the other team sports to shut down prematurely?  Yeah.  The NFL didn't want that.  So they did everything they could to make themselves LOOK like they were taking every possible precaution.

And they did a great job.
