Use a saline nasal spray and keep your sinuses hydrated. A cool mist humidifier helps as well as Afrin.

It was probably a blood clot.

Dry air from central heating often causes it. Blood clots and mucus will come out.  Don't pick your nose, not blow it very hard.

Nose bleeding eith mocus that is something long, stop from getting nose bleeding drink plenty of water not soda.

Nose picking is caused by over picking of nose

I read somewhere there's this enema treatment that prevents nose bleeds.
