A beam of protons and π+ mesons moving at the same speed is directed into a uniform magnetic field in the same direction as the field.
a) Explain why the beam is not deflected by the field.
b) If the particles had been directed into the field in a direction at right angles to the field lines at the same speed, state and explain what effect this would have had on the beam.

So, we know the force on a charged particle in a magnetic field depends on the cross product of the velocity and magnetic field vectors (qVxB)
The cross product VxB depends on sin(θ), where θ is the angle between the V and B vectors. When the V and B vectors are in the same direction, the angle between the two is zero and sin(0) is zero. If the angle between the two is 90 degrees, sin(90) = 1. This is the largest value the sin can have.
The direction VxB is based on the RH rule which would then give the direction of the force
