    like billrussel says, except that "natural gas" is NOT "mainly hydrogen (=H2)". It's mainly methane ( CH4 )

    natural gas from the city utility is piped in underground to your house and via a meter to your stove. A valve turns on the gas to nozzles in the oven, which are ignited by an electric spark. the gas, mostly hydrogen, ignites, heating the oven. A thermostat controls another valve to turn the gas on and off to maintain the selected temperature.

    Surprisingly similar to your propane grill.  Tank of gas to a line...valve to open (oven knob)...tiny spark to light it (hear the clickety click)...and poof.
