What could this pain mean?

I’ve been running on the treadmill for about a year. I go about 4 days a week. I recently took a break (maybe about 20 days) because I might have a stomach ulcer and it was painful. The ulcer symptoms have subsided so I started to run again. Every time I run I get this bad constant cramping feeling that’s pretty painful, but it stops as soon as I stop running and when I walk. I never ever got cramps, and if I did they would be much lower. This pain is on either side of my belly button and sort of by my ribs. What could this be?

If you have been running very hard, it could be a side stitch.

But, I have to wonder why you are getting them now, but you haven't experienced them previously. Are you running harder than you used to? Has heat or humidity in the treadmill room changed?  Are your daily  habits changed? For example, you might be allowing less time between eating and running than you used to.

I recommend you take this up with your professional health care providers. You want to have that ulcer looked at. You want to be sure what it is. Whatever it is, you want ot see if it could be related to your running pain.
