Why are there so many rude people on this website?

Well Sarah, welcome to "answers".

This is a good, useful website.

I have got some very useful info off here and most people are decent and will try and help answer your questions, but some however who are either only here to poke fun ( in a harmless way) or just to be caustic and vile.

An honest opinion is one thing, even if it is in disagreement with your own but some people are extremely arrogant and rude and you have a couple of choices with them.

Either ignore them completely and let them annoy someone else, or click on the flag at the right hand side and you can report them for abuse.

I'm not sure if there is a "points penalty " if you report someone and whoever reviews the situation disagrees with you though.

Perhaps someone else  knows the answer to that one?

If you think this site is full of rude people, you should check out Twitter. An absolute cesspool full of sociopaths and political extremists who organize group pile-ons on people who disagree with them, hoping to ruin their lives and livelihoods. Twitter is the sewer of the internet and should be shut down.

I thought I told you to get off this site and never come back. You are REPORTED again for being a crybaby. Go away. NOBODY likes you!

This question is asked here at least once a week (if not more) and the answer is: because they can. There are no significant consequences for being rude/inappropriate here, and people who behave that way tend to be those who are insecure and/or very unhappy. People who are happy with their lives and who they are, and who are emotionally healthy, don't behave that way. Report violations when you see them, then move on.

Asking why people do it changes nothing. Report violations when you see them, and move on. If you REALLY want to know why people do what they do, ask someone educated in psychology.

ask any actor or actress and they will tell you, 

playing the VILLAIN is always more FUN than playing the good guy. 

some sick people here, just get their rocks off being the worst villains of Yahoo. 

They don't know how to stand out by being GOOD,  so they try to stand out by being the BAD- 

not everybody is rude but the ones that are you just got to ignore them
