Will my airline charge me extra for one overweight checked bag? ?

I am traveling out of the country soon. My airline says I'm allowed 1 carry on and 2 free checked bags.

For simplicity, I chose to travel with a carry on and one large suitcase. My large suitcase, my checked bag, is definitely overweight. I stuffed as much possible in it.

Will I be charged for it being overweight? Since I am only traveling with one carry on and one checked bag?

I had a similar situation when I was coming home from Japan. I was flying with KLM on Business which allows 2 checked-in baggage. But for convenience, I also stuffed everything into one big suitcase. It went over by 2 KG and the airline told me I had to pay an extra £100 but then luckily my boyfriend had extra space and we got my suitcase weight down. So yes, they will charge.

If you have a bag that is overweight by your airline's standard, then you will be charged even though you have 1 checked bag rather than 2.

Even though it is not your choice, maybe reconsider saving some money and dividing the weight with 2 checked baggage.

Each airline has their maximum weight for a checked bag. Humans get hurt lifting your moving container.

You can expect an extra charge for overweight and a refusal if it is TOO HEAVY.

It costs money to haul your stuff. Just the weigh it is.

Your Airline has also told you the size limits and weight limits. You understood the first part that you could have TWO pieces of luggage. Which part of weight limits do you not understand from the rest of the luggage rules for your airline ticket class?

Buy a cheap bag you discard at destination if you must take a lot of heavy stuff.

The days of unlimited baggage sizes are long past.

My Airline became much stricter when a 300 pound container was claimed as "luggage" because he packed a change of clothes in his portable office he used at conventions.

It was shipped as cargo after. You too can ship extra . YOU PAY EXTRA when you have extra.

In this time of COVID airline staff have more than enough to deal with and have little sympathy for your desire to cram it into just one HEAVY bag.

Enjoy your flight and just use two suitcases.

What airline offers two bag free?

Yes you will be charged extra and any bag that is overweight.

Planes fly safely by calculating how much weight is onboard. People move luggage on and off the plane and on to conveyor belt.

There are reasons why one bag has a limit to its weight.

Over weight bag fees can be extremely high.

It should tell you in your airlines web site.

There have been times when I thought my bag had to be overweight, but after weighing found it to be under the maximum weight.

Charges for overweight bags are extortionate, £50-100 pretty normal.

Where as much as you can at check in rather than put it in your bag, especially gravy items like boots.

After check in you can put the extra into your carry on bag.

Doesn’t work that way. Yes you will be charged over weight it’s a hazard to baggage handlers and plane distribution. Doesn’t matter you are allowed 2 the bags must follow weight rules

Depends on your *********, rudeness, and the check-in person' willingness to hear your sob story. 2 or 3 pounds, likely forgiven. You can beg to allow you to pull out a pair of shoes, a coat, or whatever to reduce those 3 pounds all the while muttering that you ONLY have one checked bag. If it is SIXTY pounds, forget it!

We had a similar situation, my wife and I were entitled to a bag each, but got a slightly heavy bag allowed on board. This was an international flight, 3 or so years ago. BA was wonderful before the COVID. Now no airline is solidly dependable.

    EDIT:

**** yahoo nanny put was "bad attitude" or something, not profanity. It was a satirical way of saying "be nice"!!

If all of your luggage is in one bag, the airline can not spread out that one one bag - if you had two of the right weight, they could put them in different places in the hold to distribute the weight as evenly as possible.  If you do not follow their rules, you are likely to be charged for an overweight bag as they will have to work around the fact that they have to work out where to put it to not make one area heavier than the rest.

Yes.  I once had an airline try to charge me $90 because my suitcase was two ounces overweight.  I ended up unpacking the suitcase, taking out a coat and carrying it on with me.

Yep. They'll charge you for exceeding the weight limit fir a single bag, even if you havent exceeded your overall weight allowance. Ive lost track of the number of times ive seen travellers hastily repacking a bag at the checkout terminal because one bag was over weight and one was under.
