There's no voluntary action in this thing about darkness. So it's

    "Darkness will never compare......"

In these sentences, "can never" means "it will never be possible for darkness to compare", and "will never compare" is a prediction that something will never happen.

She can never learn to speak Italian. (Because there is some obstacle; maybe her vocal cords have been destroyed, maybe she has suffered brain damage. It is not POSSIBLE for her to learn Italian.

She will never learn to speak Italian. (This is a simple prediction. There may or may not be some physical impediment; the speaker is simply making a prediction. He might be right ... or he might not.)

    Another good example:

Gay people can never stop getting AIDS.

Gay people will never stop getting AIDS.

In the first statement, it implies that gays are willingly engaging in activity that gives them AIDS (true).

In the second statement, it states that despite all precautionary measures, gays will always get AIDS (not necessarily true).

Source(s): Most gays do have AIDS though or will get it.

Will is more powerful than the word (can) because just because someone can do something, does not mean they will, so Jesus can forgive, or the Lord can forgive, but its better to say Jesus (will) or the Lord (will) forgive!
