both were near the end of their musical careers at the time of their death, MJ was planning a final tour and Elvis was also approaching retirement

I agree with Anonymous One. 

We could what if and what if and what if until the end of time. Although I do indulge in what if with Buddy Holly.   

I doubt it. Elvis would be 86 and Jackson would be 63 and both would be so messed up from all their drug use that it would just be really sad.
