Why does the USPS subsidize corporations with advertising?

90% of the mail I receive is junk mail.  99% by weight.  Why does the USPS waste so much paper and trees?

You have it backwards. Corporations subsidize the USPS by advertising junk mail.

And I agree, 95% of mail I get is junk.

Business mail is the biggest revenue source for the USPS.

Mail shipping is down. People rarely send letters or greeting cards any more. The USPS is not subsidized by the Govt and must get their own revenue. Currently they are behind approx $11 billion.

The postal service is paid by the companies to deliver junk mail.  It's classed as bulk mail. Where I live in Canada Thursday is junk mail day and occasionally there are some gems.  That being said junk mail provides a lot of fodder for our paper recycling bins.

The USPS only delivers the mail.  The corporations are the ones who create the ads and mail them.

Why do we need a USPS at all when private industry can take over?
