Are the bends contagious?

I have a friend who is an avid diver, he probably goes on a diving trip once every two weeks. Very recently, (one or two days ago), he got the bends on one of his diving trips. Now, I am a person who is very wary of being sick, and I'm concerned that somehow I might get it passed on from him. Can he give me the bends?

Update:

Hey so okay a lot of people are saying no it's not contagious, I just want to be really sure because I'm pretty sure the bends runs in my family. My second cousin and aunt both died from it.

The bends are caused by having an improper level of nitrogen and oxygen in your blood.  This is caused by going from a high pressure under water (which causes the gases to liquify and remain in your lungs) and returning too quickly to a lower pressure.  There is no way you can get the bends from another person.  They can not somehow transfer the extra nitrogen in their lungs to you.  The bends or not contagious.

No.  Decompression sickness is not contagious.
