Which one rap band or artist would you recommend to a new listener?

Just for reference, I was considering adding some criteria, but that would probably defeat the purpose.

    It would definitely be Nas. They would get to start off with the perfect debut album in Illmatic and his music as a whole would be an ideal showcase of lyrical skill and depth of substance in hip hop. He also has great albums spanning 4 decades (90s/00s/10s/20s).
