Looking for any information on the Merchants Detective Association " The Business Man's Secret Service" was the motto. I believe it existed into the 1950's had offices in Boston, Connecticut, and Vermont

Unfortunately, there have been several companies or organizations using that name or ones similar to it. One was incorporated in Kansas as a business in Topeka in 1881. Possibly this guy, "Merchants' Detective Association, James J. Mohen, agent, 103 Douglas av." in Sedgwick County, Kansas. However, I found a license on Ebay that's closer to the geographic area you described.

If you're really interested, I would check City of Boston archives such as newspaper records and city licenses.
