Ellijay is about 90 minutes (give or take) from Atlanta.  There is a lot to do in and around Atlanta - zoo, aquarium, World of Coca Cola, etc.  

You're about the same distance from Chattanooga.  There are riverboats, beautiful hiking with great scenery and falls, museums, an aquarium, a zoo, etc. 

Nashville is just over 3 hours from Ellijay.  You can see the Grand Ole Opry, there's great food, and there are lots of music attractions.  And another zoo!
