What is the Australian healthcare.?

Here in the UK we have the National Health Service. We pay National Insurance contributions from our earnings which enables us to get free treatment when it is needed. What kind of service does Australia have?.

It’s called Medicare, and is funded by levy on our personal incomes.  Last time I checked it was 1.5%, but it could have gone up.

Australia's health care system is primarily funded by Medicare, the national health insurance scheme. All Australian citizens and permanent residents have access to Medicare, which subsidises a set amount for most health services. ... In private hospitals, Medicare will cover 75% of the total cost for services.

A combination of a Government and a Private health care system.

All Australians are covered Federal Government system "medicare" The cost varies slightly to reflect the persons income level. For day to day GP visits you may chose your own doctor who receives a payment from the Government for the visit. Some doctors also require a co-payment from the Patient.

Although the wait for non urgent can drag on If it is urgent and a serious risk to your life ie: Heart attack you will be treated quickly and with a relevant specialist for your condition.

The Private System has declined considerably in recent times as increasing payments has seen people leave as it is not seen as value for money.

a Better system than the UK because there is a Lower waiting time

I visit my doctor within 15 Minutes of an Appointment Not like the UK get in at 0800 and lucky to see a doctor at all

My sister in London had an appointment with a doctor at St Thomas' Hospital London we went in at 1000 for a 1030Hrs appointment and at 1630 told to come back tomorrow  at 0800 Hrs arrived at 0730 saw the Doctor at 1200 hrs

Australia Me had an appointment for a specialist at 0900 Hrs left the Doctor at 10,00 hrs after seeing my doctor

I rarely wait  More than 30 minutes to see a doctor

In Australia health care Medicare is taxpayer Funded and if you can afford Private you don't pay the Health care Loading

But if No Private healthcare you may be paying a Loading depending on Your Income

so Rich or Poor everyone can use the Medicare
