Can I get my references back?

I put 3 or 4 bibliographies together on a word document for different chapters for my dissertation but it wouldnt merge onto the one bibliography so i deleted it the bibliography and decided to seperate it all. Little did I know when I saved it and logged back on again it deleted all my references beside my paragraphs. Is there anyway to recover the last word document with the references on it or do I need to insert them again. There is a lot about about 40/50 references.

No.  Once you saved over the original file, the changes you made are gone.  No way to recover.  Hopefully, you kept a record of your references.

I know this is locking the barn door after the horses are out, but in the future, when you're trying to work through a problem such as this, it's best to save as a whole new file. Then when things go sideways, you still have the original.
