    the formula of the compounds?

    sodium hypochlorite =  NaOCl

    sodium chlorate = NaClO3

    which of these has a greater % oxygen composition?

    Just looking at the formulas, you can see that sodium chlorate has three times as much oxygen as sodium hypochlorite.

    How many percent?  [percent of what?]

    NaOCl = 74.4422 g/mol

    O = 15.99943 g/mol

    (15.99943 g/mol) / (74.4422 g/mol) = 0.214924 = 21.4924% O in NaOCl

    NaClO3 = 106.441 g/mol

    O3 = 47.9982 g/mol

    (47.9982 g/mol) / (106.441 g/mol) = 0.450937 = 45.0937% O in NaClO3
