    g(x) = x² + 2x + 1

    g' = 2x + 2 (this is the equation of the slope/tangent)

    point 2,9

    g(x) = x² + 2x + 1

    first, is this on the curve

    9 = 2² + 2•2 + 1 = 9

    yes

    slope at x = 2

    g' = 2•2 + 1 = 5

    straight line would have the same slope, 5

    so eq is

    y = 5x + k

    use point to get k

    9 = 5•2 + k

    k = –1

    so eq is

    y = 5x – 1
