No, Joanna is still a good name. It's actually gained in popularity since 2014.

I think it's silly to refer to a name as being dated when many of the names in common usage have been around for thousands of years. It's just that some names have come in and gone out of fashion, so they tend to sound old-fashioned. Adriana, Brianna, Julianna, Liliana, Susanna, they're all just two names melded into one. I'm not a huge fan of such names myself, but they're better than the double barreled names that are gaining popularity which sound way too hick. Calling a child Jo-Beth or Edna-Mae is just terrible. Mary, Deborah, and Rebecca are so old they appear in The Bible, so no, I don't think Joanna is too dated at all, it's just not a great name.

To me it is. I think it’s a little plain .

Dated doesn't matter if you like the name or if it is a family name. My ndn name is Yomish. I have had it for over 70 years. My great grandfather was also Yomish, and his great grandfather was also Yomish. My great grandson will probably be Yomish too. So, "dated" is not important in naming a child.
