Can excessive daydreaming be caused by loneliness? ?

I have friends to talk to. I don’t get to see them often cause of the pandemic but we text. However, I don’t feel like a meaningful connection. We talk and catch up and joke and stuff but I want to feel closer and I don’t know how because I’ve never had a very close connection with anyone except one friend who passed away. Lately, I’ve been having this problem of just creating pleasing scenarios in my head were I’m happy and have company that I enjoy and I’m getting lots of attention from them that I want. Could this be like a maladaptive daydreaming problem, or ocd even though the thoughts are nice like fantasies, or can these thoughts be caused by me feeling lonely? I prefer living in these thoughts in my head than in real life. I wish I could live out these scenarios in real life and have a deeper connection with others. What could my problem be... is this normal... what is something I can do, any advice?

Maladaptive daydreaming is defined as daydreaming that interferes with a person's life. Daydreaming itself is not unhealthy. There's no formal treatment for this, although some people are getting therapy for it. An expert recommends going to a good online support group, such as Wild Minds Network.

Here's something you might like to think about, from the famous author Thich Nhat Hanh -

"Loneliness is a lack of connection. Before we connect with others, we have to connect with ourselves. When I meditate, I come home to myself. My home is a mess, but that's all right. I can put things in order. When husband and wife are connected with themselves, they can connect with each other, and the two of them can connect with the world."

    No it is very doubtful.

    This is doubtful also.

Maladaptive daydreaming is a psychiatric condition. It was identified by Professor Eliezer Somer of the University of Haifa in Israel. This condition causes intense daydreaming that distracts a person from their real life. Many times, real-life events trigger day dreams.

I would say it's ok as long as you do not overdue it.
