Why is beginning of April gonna be so cold in UK?

I've lived here all my life and it wasn't like this in the past.

    The central US and Canada had a REAL cold snap about 1 1/2 months ago.  Even Houston got snow.  (Dallas, being somewhat inland, gets it almost every winter.)
