Tariffs or bans on our products adversely affect our balance of trade figures.

What it means is that we should change the source on products we purchase from China. We have plenty of alternatives and I think government should either enact some sort of legislation or provide incentives for these replacements from other nations. 

Hurt China's exports to us to a slightly greater degree, to show we're not fearful of their petty retribution. Why on Earth have we become so reliant on trade with this autocratic and hostile government? 

We should work on becoming totally unreliant on anything to do with them at all.

matters to people that sells it to china, BUT more so we sure should STOP exporting iron ore  to china  .....

No because by far the biggest earner for Australia is iron ore which China is still buying 

Not much , bad luck for those directly effected.  Many effected are just further diversifying which is not a bad thing.
