Why do women have to make hypothetical questions difficult?

This morning \I was listening to a radio show and a girl wrote in a letter about her now husband being pulled over by the cops.  Long story short, she found out that he use to be a gigalo years before he met her and had to do community service for the arrest.  A late 20s guy spending time with women 50 and up.  The girl was wanting to know what she should do knowing that her husband had slept with so many women.  I posed that question to my wife in a comical sense asking what would she do if she found out I was a gigalo servicing older women before we met.  Her response to me was, "well, why wouldn't you tell me?"  My reply was I'm sure there are some things in your past before you met me that you haven't told me but am I really to get angry over something that happened before we met.  She then got on the defense stating that she would have to think twice about me knowing that I kept that secret from her.  I reminded her that not everything is a secret and some things need to be taken to your grave or even, some things we forget about until something sparks that memory.  She's still upset thinking I'm now keeping secrets from her.  Again, this was a hypothetical question.  In your dating lives, have you each sat down and told your partner EVERYTHING you did in your past so there are no secrets?  That's impossible to tell someone EVERYTHING.  Why couldn't she just have some fun with this hypothetical question without turning it into an argument?

Update:

@ Anonymous

It wasn't "brought up" in a casual conversation.  If you would have read my OP the guy and girl were riding and he got pulled over by the cops and when the cops ran his license they discovered that he hadn't completed his community service and mentioned it to him when he let him go.  And no, I wasn't picking a fight.  I was just asking a hypothetical question.  I'm sure there are women who don't want it known that they slept with half the frat house 10 years ago in

Update 2:

college but it comes up during a class reunion by one of her drunk friends.  "Hi, my name is Lisa, nice to meet you.  I just wanted to let you know that I slept with half the guys in a frat house back in college 10 years ago"  I'm just a firm believer that what you did before may have no bearing on me now.  Ok, so you did some seedy things.  As long as you're not doing them now and have changed we're all good.

"gigolo"... You don't say, I thought about entering that profession. The money and benefits are great they say, however, the thought of being intimate with fat old woman stopped me in my track..To answer your question, he took one for the team and that should be enough to forgive him...

"I reminded her that not everything is a secret and some things need to be taken to your grave or even, some things we forget about until something sparks that memory."

And which category does a career as a gigolo fit into?   If it needs to be taken to the grave, why would you bring it up?   If it's not a secret, why didn't you tell her?   And we can cross "forgotten" off the list since that's virtually impossible.

SHE is being difficult?   Gimme a break. She simply wanted to know why you would intentionally hide it only to bring it up years later.  The answer is obvious and it isn't flattering.

"Why couldn't she just have some fun with this hypothetical question without turning it into an argument?"

Because you weren't after fun.  You were picking a fight and you've turned the result into making a negative generalization which insults not just her, but an entire gender.

You sound like a real peach.   Good thing you're just a troll.
