Christians: Why do many Christians make the argument against Jews- "you follow the letter of the law, not the spirit of the law?"?

In my opinion, this argument is very flawed. First, we have much "spirit" in our law, that's why we pray to God everyday and connect to Him continuously. Second, our "letter of the law" means we take seriously what God says, teaches, and commands us. It does not mean we don't have a "spirit" aspect to it. That's the very essence of Judaism- to elevate our spirits.

We also have a scroll that is proven to be divine, so yes, we have the letter of the law, but the law we follow always has a spirit aspect to it. Would King David or Job or Moses have been able to cry out to God without a clean spirit or just following the "letter" of Torah? No, absolutely not

I would love your input on this. Thank you.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I have a different view on Judaism. The Book of Mormon is all about Israelites who left Jerusalem in 600 bc just before it was destroyed. It talks allot about the reason for the law of Moses.

The problem with modern day Christianity is that they have thrown out the need to keep the commandments of God. The thinking is that we need to have faith in God, not just follow rules. In doing away with the law of Moses, they have done away with everything. It is as if God had an entirely different mindset before Christ.

A loving God gives counsel and commandments so that by living them, we can learn to grow in character. They are not just unimportant rules designed to make people jump through hoops. They are for our benefit. When taken in the right spirit, they draw us closer to God and help us to learn to trust in Him.

They judge because they know "they" are not the "chosen" of their god!

What's to argue?   It was Jesus and later Paul who made those accusations--and mostly against the Pharisees.  Besides, it was 2000 years ago.

    I think you're just trolling.

The real point is expressed in Hebrews 8:13 and Romans 15:4 is still meaningful.
