If a diploid species of 2n=10 hybridizes with one of 2n=12 and the resulting hybrid doubles its chromosome number to produce a new fertile allotetraploid species, how many chromosomes will it have (i.e. 2n = 4x = ?).

    The initial hybrid will have 11 chromosomes (5 from one parent and 6 from the other). When it doubles it chromosomes, it will then have a chromosome number 2n = 22.
