Why do we celebrate Easter the way we do?

Seriously, the anniversary of a guy being crucified and then being resurrected, and we celebrate it by eating chocolate eggs and telling kids a bunny is gonna break into their rooms to leave them there for them? I mean, it's fun, but how did it come about exactly?

    she is the Spring goddess and was worshipped across northern Europe (with variations of her name - Ostara, or Eostre or Eastre

    she is also the goddess of springtime fertility, so eggs feature a lot, in depictions of her
