What is the purpose of this right angle slant in this room?

It's the top left room of the first picture. The slant it top left corner of the second picture.

I don't understand why there is a slant (right angle triangle) in the 2nd picture, couldn't you just have nothing there? Why is it there?

I've been trying to visualise it as a slant of the roof, but the slant is in the wrong direction to the slant of the roof it seems. To the left of the 2nd picture you see the front window.

The view on the right picture is toward the side elevation of the house, not toward the front.  You can see the dormer window to the left of the bed in the picture attached to your other question.   The window to the right of the bed opens to the side yard.
