Is my coworker shy?

I have never seen hear talk to anyone until she is spoken to. Even from her voice, it is so low you can barely hear it. I don't think English is the problem, because I heard that she doesn't speak Spanish.

I always see her working alone and doesn't work with others. Every time I try to talk to her, her response is very abrupt. Should I ask her if she's shy or do I already have my answer?

I would have thought that it's blatantly obvious that she's shy - and to ask her, "Are you shy?" would be rude, insensitive and stupid.

It would be even worse to ask, "Why are you shy?" as has happened to me before.  It's not a choice!

Maybe she just thinks you are all morons.

Please leave her alone. I don’t mean to sound rude but I have been in her shoes many times. We just want to be left alone.
