Is it okay to be cheap with my friend, since he’s cheap with me?  ?

I’m normally a very generous person, although I have no money.  My friend keeps saying how rich he is but never puts in for anything or buys gifts for anyone, but expects other people to give him things.  His cheapness and sense of self entitlement makes me want to be less generous with him than I am with my more giving friends.  Is this okay?

My suggestion is that you cut out all the regular giving (every one of you) and limit gifts to birthdays, Christmas time and anniversaries.  There is no need to be constantly giving or expecting gifts. When this happens it spoils the enjoyment of having a real surprise after not having gifts for some time.  Most people cannot afford to be constantly giving anyway as they have necessary bills to pay.

If we give only to receive that is not being generous at all it is just constantly exchanging gifts and that's rather stupid when necessary things in life are forever becoming more expensive.

Give him nothing ever again. He is not just cheap, he is also greedy.

It sure is. Why should he expect anything when he does not give anyone?
